On July 16th, we held the online kick-off meeting for the UNIHUBS project, a capacity building program aimed at fostering stronger university hubs across Europe and Africa. Acknowledging the goals of the EU-AU Innovation Agenda (2022) to strengthen innovation ecosystems and develop sustainable and mutually beneficial ΗΕ in Europe and Africa, the project aims to contribute to improving the capacity of African HEIs, in their attempt to modernize their curricula and address current and future challenges of the labor market. UNIHUBS focuses on curriculum enhancement in seven universities in Kenya, Ghana and Tanzania, through a series of activities aiming to promote collaboration between HEIs and digital innovation ecosystem, foster the professional development of university educators and digital innovation professionals, and support business and technology graduates in meeting the requirements of a changing labor market landscape.
During the meeting, each partner presented their organization, offering insights into their contributions and expertise that they will bring to the project.
We also covered key administrative topics, including contracts, payment schedules, and preparations for the face-to-face kick-off meeting. This in-person event is planned for October 2024 in Rotterdam, with adequate time provided for our African partners to receive their first payments and complete the VISA approval processes.
Moreover, we agreed on the project’s timeline and discussed deliverable assignments, ensuring that every partner is clear on their responsibilities as outlined in the project proposal submitted to the European Commission. We are excited to embark on this journey, confident that together we will make a significant impact.
